Fishing Article, 27 Aug. Note: I'm re=posting this, it was mis filed the first time. It's time for new licenses. Texas fiscal year, 1 Sept through 31 Aug, which governs the outdoor seasons and permits, is upon us once again. That old license expired on Thursday night, and must be replaced before you go out with a fishing rod, shotgun, gig, rifle, bow, jug or trot lines, trap, or noodling gloves to capture Texas wildlife.A review of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Outdoor Annual, the booklet you get when you buy your license, doesn't show any changes from the same fees that have applied for the last few years .It also appears that all the same rules apply that we've had for last years for freshwater fishing. For Lake Palestine, that means that we have another year of no minimum length for blue and channel catfish, a daily bag of 50 of these mixed, and a max of 5 blue or channel cats over 20 inches. Trotline and jug fishermen will have to continue to be able to keep fish alive if they want to cull to that 20 inch limit, and check lines often to stay away from the "wasting" rules. Size and bag limits for flathead catfish, also called Op and yellow cats, remain at state limits.The licensing special requirements for our military members also remain in place. A Texas resident on active duty can receive one of three licenses free. These are the "Super Combo" Hunting and All Water Fishing Package (Type 510), the All Water Fishing Package (Type 511), or the Hunting Package (type 512). These are available to Regular, Reserve, National Guard, and State Guard military, including U S Coast Guard. There are also provisions for our disabled veterans, a free "Super Combo" Hunting and All Water Fishing Package (Type 502), for those who have lost the use of a foot or leg or 50% military disability. All of these require appropriate proof.The Lifetime licenses continue to be attractive if you believe that you'll be fishing and/or hunting for more than about 20 years before you reach 65, and then for at least 5 years after, but they're ones that you'll have to do the math to determine individual breakeven points.Jim
