fishing report 22 Feb
Updated: Sat Feb 22, 2025
Fishing report, 22 Feb-Now that we've 3 cold fronts in a row, each effecting weekend fishing, let's hope our "winter" is over.
Those fronts have brought rain that has raised Lake Palestine to about a foot above the pool level and lowered the water temps to the mid 50's, too cool for the crappie to come in shallow, but OK for bass to come in and begin the staging and nest building process.
The bass clubs have to continue their agreed-on schedules, regardless of weather, and they've been doing pretty good, with several 5-fish strings in the 20's being reported, mostly from the northern 1/3 of the lake. Lots of discussion among those members concerning short bite periods and very shallow bites. Slower moving, lots of noise (tentacles, claws, curly tails), are working well.
Very few reports of white bass from the Neches River park, river is high, muddy, and cold.
