Fishing report, 1 Jul - Went today looking specifically for hybrid stripers and white bass with a customer wanting to know more about fishing for these exciting fish.
Weather has been very hot lately, with winds often gusting above 15, so this was a challenge, with both of us hemmed in by schedules. The forecast winds had come down, but not the bright skies and temps.
We launched at dawn (0615), and that turned out to be really our only good option.Water temp at that time was already 84 degrees, breeze 4-8 out of SSE.
About 25 min after sunrise the first surface feeding activity began, with 2 small schools of hybrids coming up. We caught and released several fish, 16 to 19 inches, but typical of this time they were only up for a few exciting minutes. We cast 1/2 oz slab spoons, the Wahoo and the KT Lure. Both produced.
We tried trolling for awhile with Yankee rigs, but the fish were done, so we went on with the lake orientation before it got hot. This early pattern will be the norm on non-cloudy/rainy days into Sept.
Still planning on Washington state salt water salmon trips 20 July and 24 Aug, call me if you're interested in going along.
